About the program
Interns will spend approximately three to four months on Oahu working at Aulani Disney Resort and Spa. They will receive lifeguard certification upon completion of a two day class. After on-the-job training, interns will begin the first stage of the expedited leadership program: Lifeguard.
Over the course of the program, interns will work 40 hours a week as Lifeguard, then as Lead Lifeguard, and finally as Supervisor. They will become experts in first aid and water safety, while developing valuable leadership skills as they work their way up the chain of command.
After you complete the interview process, you as well as other new team members will go through a free class of certification training, facility training, and on-the-job training. After you begin working, we provide constant feedback to you, like a coach, until you are excelling on your own!
Intern housing
Condominium-style housing is available within walking distance from Aulani. The house comes with basic furniture, a television and Roku, and cookware. There is a garage as well if interns wish to purchase an island car. Discounted rent, however, it varies from location to location, utilities, and wifi will be deducted from bi-weekly paychecks. Interns live together, alongside fellow lifeguards and travel managers.
Making the Most of the Internship
Before you leave home, realize you are on the precipice of an unforgettable experience. Embrace any nerves you might feel and work to turn them into excitement.
Look into transportation once you arrive. Whether it be by car, moped, or bus, you will want to explore the island on your days off. Learn how to surf at White Plains Beach, watch the sunset at China Walls, kayak to the Mokes off Lanikai beach. We will ensure the hours you spend at work are filled with value and purpose, but the hours you spend outside of work are yours. We recommend you use these hours to get to know one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Show grace and respect. Learn to live aloha.
