Work Travel Spotlight – Payton Bain

What made you do the Work Travel with Jeff Ellis Management? Payton: I’m a college senior working towards a bachelor of science degree in Recreation and Parks- Natural resources. I have never been the type to seek a job that keeps me cooped up inside an office daily. I want to see the world and work in a career I’m passionate about!

I started lifeguarding as an Ellis and Associates lifeguard in 2018 at my hometown waterpark in Arkansas. My first couple of seasons on-stand had me curious as to what a career in the aquatics industry could look like. When I scrolled across the Hawaii Work Travel opportunity posted on Jeff Ellis Management’s Instagram and LinkedIn, I instantly knew I wanted to land a seat on the next flight out.

How has JEM helped contribute to your career interests?

Payton: I love expanding and improving my skill sets. JEM provides a work environment that challenges and guides its employees toward growth. They also offer a space where people can ask for help and get answers to questions they have to be successful and excel as much as possible. Employees also receive certifications through the International Lifeguard Training Program™.

I want to work for a company that creates opportunities to advance in the industry. Many people I have met while working under JEM speak so positively about their experiences and years in the industry.

The ability to travel in a career is important to me. JEM provides a unique work/travel program with options to work at 11 different facilities.

JEM creates a space to have fun and connect outside of work. The aquatics department was invited to go ice skating to hang out and bond with our colleagues. Things like in-service also allow you to get to know each other even more.

What is your next step? Anything cool you’d like to share?!

Payton: My next step is to continue to work towards completing my degree. I plan on applying for the internship program with JEM for the summer 2024 season!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about applying for the JEM Work Travel or internship program?

Payton: Do it, do it, do it! Not only can you go and work at one of JEM’s best facilities, but you also get a chance to meet people, experience new things, and challenge yourself.  I have been loving my time in Hawaii and have been able to enjoy the island outside of work.
